My time spent in Whangamata was definitely a highlight of my travels across New Zealand. It is a stunning location with clean beaches, picturesque islands and all amenities within easy walking distance of one another. As lovely as Whangamata is however, the wonderful time I had there was most certainly due to the people who run the Whangamata Surf School. They were extremely hospitable and went out of their way to accommodate me. As for the surf lessons they offer, the instructors manage to tailor each session to your individual needs and abilities, enabling maximum progression. I would not hesitate to recommend the Whangamata Surf School to anyone, whether on a short break or extensive travels. A definite must do if in New Zealand.
